Welcome to the "Chopping Block"

Last Monday evening for our Family Night activity, we decided to do our own little rendition of the TV show "Chopped."  Here is how it went...

Chef's, for today's dessert challenge you will have to use these mystery basket ingredients, which are homemade flour tortillas, an old banana, and turkey bacon.
Chef Sean, what have you made for us today?
Chef Sean: "Chef's today I have made for you a homemade crisped and cinnamon and sugared homemade tortilla Napoleon, layered with caramelized turkey bacon and old banana along with whipped cream and garnished with raspberry preserve.
Judges: The flavors all really come together nicely and you have really elevated the basket ingredients. The bacon is delicious but the pieces could be just slightly smaller, it kind of overwhelms the pallet. I also wish there was just a bit more of the raspberry preserve.

Chef Carlee, what do you have for us today?
Chef Carlee: Judges, today I present a homemade warmed tortilla crepe stuffed with caramelized bacon, a whipped cream and cream cheese compote, and ripened banana. It is topped with caramelized banana and a raspberry preserve and chocolate compote.
Judges: Presentation is nice and the whipped cream and cream cheese compote is delicious.  However, the bacon is much too done, bordering on burned and the raspberry chocolate sauce is quite overwhelming, one small spoon full would have been enough. It is much too sweet.

Chef's, you have reached the Chopping Block.  Only one of you can walk away with the prize.

Chef Carlee, you have been chopped. While presentation was nice and there were some good elements to your dessert, the sauce was too overpowering and and the bacon was overdone. For those reasons we had to chop you.

Which means Chef Sean, you are today's Chopped Champion!

Along with the title of champion, you also walk away with this ten dollar check that we received in the mail today!
