A Journey Begins

This week Sean started medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). A year ago today I would have never seen myself living in Texas while my husband (which I didn't know I would have) would be attending medical school! Yet, here we are. Sometimes the thought of four years of school, then a residency, and possibly a fellowship seems like an eternity.  One night I was "expressing my thoughts" (complaining) to Sean and wishing that we could just be 50 years old and have a stable life.  Sean reminded me nicely that life is about the journey and making the most of where you are.  He also reminded me of all the blessings we have in life and if we just fast forwarded, we would miss out on all those blessings and memories. What a smart man I married.

Anyways, I am VERY proud of Sean. He was working hard for this opportunity of going to medical school long before I knew him and is still working hard today now that he has reached that first step in his goal. While med school may be very time consuming and stressful, he has made it very clear what is most important in his life. We laugh every morning as we drive to work/school together and every night before we go to bed. (He is folding laundry right now...go ahead. Be jealous.) He is so enthusiastic about learning and being the very best doctor, husband, son, brother, and future father that he can be. I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the world! I'm SO blessed to have Sean to go through this journey of life, and the next life with.  He is the most compassionate, humble, loving, smart, willing, and fun person I know...which is the exact reason he is going to make a FABULOUS doctor!   He is going to bless a lot of lives with his knowledge, kind heart, and skills, and make a difference for a lot of families. I could not be more proud to call myself his wife. We have been blessed beyond words up to this point, both spiritually and temporally, and I know that has come from Sean's hard work and dedication to both school as well as the Gospel. So...here's to the next four years of our medical school journey!

On the way to orientation, which I enjoyed much more than Sean.

Night before white coat ceremony at the beach :)

BABE!!!!

So...I really had to use the restroom at the exact same time as the white coat ceremony was starting. Luckily, it worked out alright because I got to see Sean as he was walking in!

DOCTOR STOUT getting his white coat!

Getting his pin...

The Doctor Stouts...we are pretty lucky to have such a great doctor to follow in the footsteps of.

All the Stout boys in their white coats. All we need is a dentist!

Date night at Moody Gardens before med school starts

We were pretty excited to see "Sharks" 3D

Two-Wheeled Adventures of Carlee and Sean

We got bikes. I do believe this is the best purchase we have made thus far in our lives together! We have had such a blast pedaling around Galveston and exploring the world we live in. Even though we have driven up and down the Seawall countless times, everything seems to look different when you are on a bike. It is completely amazing to me what we can see in life when we just....slow....down. Sometimes I think I make life more about the amount of steps I take, rather than making the steps that I actually do take more meaningful. Whelp...here's a peek into our new adventure...

First night on the bike!

And then Sean got his the next day :)

Takin' a stroll through the East island...our favorite place to ride
Cute path to East Beach, sure!

Love birds and proud of it!

Riding down Seawall

I like the beaches on Galveston, but I'm not sure clean, green, or pristine are the words I would use..

In memory of the 1900 storm

I liked riding behind...it was always a nice view ;)
